Favor

We exist by God’s grace. Is life itself God’s favor? I would argue so.

But we live in a world of evil. It seems the most evil are often the most successful. I’m talking successful as in wealth and status and perhaps even ease of life, not peace and joy and wisdom. This is a mystery of life, and it has been so; nothing is new under the sun. Psalms is full of this observation. It doesn’t make sense and it’s hard to reconcile at times, but a day is coming when true justice is served. I know this.

Evil has its time limit.

Recently a good kid I know has been succeeding significantly in his sport. A response from someone in my life is that it’s God’s favor. Is it though? I started thinking about this. The kid doesn’t acknowledge God, wasn’t raised knowing Him. There is no evidence that he believes in the existence of God, let alone surrendered to Him. So how do I deduce that his succeeding is God’s favor? I don’t. Especially in a world where evil seems to be succeeding everywhere. By God allowing it, is it God’s favor?

This is a mystery to me.

Maybe “good” or “succeeding” in other’s lives isn’t always God’s favor. How do we know when it is? I don’t know. I hesitate putting labels on things. I know God is God, and I’ll let Him. I see good happen to evil, and evil happen to good. Many times, perhaps most the time, we live in upside down world.

Perhaps noticing is God’s favor.
