Growing up in churches, the general attitude about wealth was negative. I think it still is. After all, the love of money is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6:10). I don’t disagree. It is Biblical. Think of every example of evil we see in the world. How often is the love of money tied to the evil? Probably every time.
That’s the love of money, though, not money. Money is not evil.
In some Christian circles, it seems that you aren’t Christian enough unless you’re broke. Most often, those same Christians brag about the blessing of wealth on the Jewish people. How is wealth bad for Christians, but a blessing from God for Jewish people?
In other circles, God exists for our prosperity as if He’s a genie, here to make our wishes come true. Prosperity gospel is not truth. Why are humans so extreme with beliefs?
I think of Solomon and his great wealth. He asked for wisdom, and the Lord blessed him with wealth. His extreme wealth was a gift from God. We can’t argue that. He’s not the only example, but he’s a good example.
I think it’s ok to have a positive perspective about wealth. It can be a really good thing. It can be a great blessing from the Lord and it’s ok to be grateful for it and use it for His glory and His good.
